Reviews
- Been watching this label, I hope they do some more Fax reissues. I would love the two I.F. CDs to be issued on vinyl, the first From Within CD, N-Plane and the two Dreamfish CDs would be most welcome….
- Edited one year agoAnother killer release from Silent State Recordings, and I’m lucky to own both this and Air. The music is the music, and it’s great, but the care that goes into the package — including delaying release until test pressings were just right (another reviewer characterizes this as “sand in the gears,” whereas I think this is “exactly what should happen — is apparent and greatly appreciated by me.
- Musically, Silence I is absolutely timeless and stands for itself as a genre-defining masterpiece. So it only remains to talk about the quality of this reissue.
Unfortunately, there was some sand in the gears here at first: shortly after the start of preorders, it turned out that there were quality problems with the pressing. Silent State Recordings, however, insisted on the best possible product and so began a seemingly endless series of production delays. The end result, however, makes up for this frustrating time.
Like the Air reissue, the record is technically absolutely plain and silent, the sound quality though is just outstanding. I have never heard Silence, which I own in several versions, like this before. In addition, this version contains an extra sheet with memories from Dr Atmo about the time of the album's creation.
A really great reissue - Good things come to those who wait. - A super great pressing of this album. I really hope Silent State continues to release these Fax classics. The original Fax cover in 12" is stellar and the pressing is clean.
- Another great release from Silent State Recordings - the sound is absolutely perfect and the pressing is top quality (quiet and flat vinyl) - this music never sounds so haunting and mysterious - also a nice idea to use the original CD artwork, definitively closer to the spirit of Fax/Namlook than the Rising High one
- Congrats on a stellar reissue - and for the "most well-packed vinyl package" to arrive in the US from Europe - spotless and full of surprises!
- Extremely well-crafted product and music, an adventure that began several months before I actually received this prodigious package. In September last year I received a postcard (yes, a real handwritten, post office-stamped, physical mailbox delivered postcard), with a fax album cover on the picture side, and, on the written side, a few words announcing that on October 21, 2022, Silence reissues on vinyl would be available for orders. A fine glimpse to what was about to be come!
Needless to say, as soon as I could secure a copy that day, I placed my order, waited patiently for 6 months, and finally, last week the package arrived. And what a package that is! Like other members have stated below, it’s so much more than an record: another postcard, copy of original tracksheets and press review from back when the music was initially released, as well as download codes enclosed in a proper envelope, and, of course, the main course itself: the Silence LP,.
It's a a beautiful gatefold package, complete with 2022 liner notes from Dr Atmo.
Vinyl is extremely well cut; when I put it on, the cavernous, slightly menacing basses of Omid/Hope came out of the speakers like they had waited 30 years to finally express themselves! The sound is perfect all along, no surface noises, and the mastering is extremely loyal to the original recording philosophy (i.e. not trying to give it a contemporary sound, unlike some other recent reissues)
As for the music: I originally came to this album through the Rising High CD, an incredible 30 years ago, and although I had not listened to it in probably 25 years, I remembered it pretty well. Or I thought… I was overwhelmed by its power more than I remember having been back in the day; listening to this release is an experience. Music is more sublime that ever with this record. When I heard the spoken words, I really though Apocalypse Now’s Colonel Kurts was speaking to me from deep inside his Jungle… A hell of a trip I’m telling ya!
So yeah, this record was worth, worth, worth the wait.
Finally, I have to salute Silent Sate - at a time when superficiality rules, and music is just a commodity for nearly everybody, it’s so great to have people putting love and care in this kind of project and sharing it with us. Special care for a special package for a special record that makes me feel, well, special. Thank you! - Just a beautiful job all around here, and excellent stereo panning and separation which compliments a super-quiet record well. Bravo, Nils!
- Amazing release from Silent State Recordings. Attention to detail is just wow. A superb reimagining of the original and a truly great tribute to the remarkable Pete Namlook. Thank you for you care and efforts in producing this now treasured item in my collection.
