- Absolutely unacceptable pressing quality for Third Man's "exclusive" variant. I would be embarrassed to have my name and logo on this if I were Jack White. Keep this in mind, the regular swirled variant cost $33 USD to buy, this variant was $60 USD, almost double the price. What do you get for the price? Well, if you are me then you got a visually stunning record in a shitty paper sleeve and SEVEN LARGE PRESSING BUBBLES ACROSS BOTH SIDES!!! These bubbles render "Thorns and Roses" and "Boulevard Trash" virtually unplayable on my system. I don't buy the whole "the record is actually for display only ☝️🤓" argument people have been making at all, I didn't see any disclaimer on the page that said "hey just so you know, your premium priced record won't even play correctly, just put it in a frame and look at it lol", did you? The worst part? No recourse from Third Man about the whole thing. Ridiculous. Absolutely fucking ridiculous.
- If you added up the cholesterol of the discogs users complaining about the sound quality of this picture disc it would be enough to kill the remaining population of white rhinos on earth and they'd probably be okay with it if they could get an audiophile grade pressing of a white stripes reissue pressed on white rhino horn infused vinyl.
- A local shop of mine got a few of these in and I picked one up, not knowing anything about the pressing other than it was the rarest one. I've played through it once and will add to the chorus of folks saying that this is a collector's piece, and is more to be looked at rather than listened to. To its credit, it is very pretty looking, but my copy doesn't sound great - lots of pops, the most I've ever heard on a new vinyl. I've played it exactly once and it sounded like a VG- disc right out of the gate.
In the end, I'd much rather own a copy of this that I can actually listen to, because these songs are fantastic. - What a huge disappointment. $60 for an unplayable record. Third Man should be ashamed and embarrassed about releasing this to the public. Bubbles all over my copy renders it unlistenable. I guess the quality control person was out sick the day they pressed this. From what I’m hearing this was a problem with the whole run, and there is no recourse to get a playable copy or a refund. If this is what they want to be know for I shall forgo purchasing anything else from them in the future.
- Hey, any truth I rumour about hidden track somewhere on this vinyl?
Any info?
If true do the regular pressings Al's have? Thanks - Sweet press aestivally but watch out. Bubbles everywhere and groove indentations. Its a collector item not a copy to be spun. Get the indie exclusive or black. FYI. I confirmed with the good ole folks at TMR.
- This is available if you have a USA vault subscription. If you have a UK subscription you have to buy it on discogs or ebay. The UK subscribers are paying more and getting less. What a rip off.
- Picked up a copy at my LRS. Found out after preordering and receiving the standard black. My copy also didn’t come with a hype sticker.
