As of mid-March 2024, US retailers are still shipping the troublesome first press (stamped Made in Mexico on rear shrink). Edge warp on both discs is so pronounced that the needle drops into the opening tracks prematurely. Bummer.

I've seen a few references to this album's amazing liner notes, but mine doesn't have any. Is it only the CD version?

The jacket is reasonable. Disc one is dirty, scratched and a bad dimple. Disc two, bad scratch, scuffed. They treat Coltrane like this? Disappointing to say the least.

They were really scraping the bottom of the barrel with these recordings. They are absolute dregs.

The sound is terrible, and the solos are long, boring and without focus. No wonder this material was not released at the time. 1961 was a great year for Trane, and I was hoping that this material would be good. The late 1940s airshots of Charlie Parker have very reasonable sound, so there is no excuse here.

Druker and Universal should be rebuked for putting this out. Anything for a buck.

Returned two copies that were both heavily scratched & warped.

Out of the shrink this was impressively dirty. Dust, scratches, and even some fingerprints! Also came with both discs warped which was a fun surprise. After a cleaning, the warp on the first disc was enough to make the needle jump for the first few minutes (or however far ahead I skipped). The second disc was warped about 2/3 of the entire length, pretty impressive. Given all that, was surprisingly quiet. Not silent but not at all as noisy as I was expecting.

Skip this one and just listen digitally, you’re not missing anything.

Yep - my LP1 is warped too. Fortunately, my deck plays through and it's inaudible. Sound is excellent despite this.

Mine is warped as well. A disappointement, but better than no reissues at all I suppose.

No sign of any warp on my the one I received. My standard procedure is to clean all records before first play, and replace the inner sleeves with mofi like, rice paper sleeves. I am not noticing any surface noise, the lead in/out tracks are silent.
