Reviews
- A bit disappointed with this one on first removal from the cellophane when I noticed a bit of a tear to the top of the outer sleeve. Stuck on side A and my immediate thought was that it was a bit muffled albeit the vocals were clear. This was not the case on every track and currently I'm on side C and everything is good albeit I've turned up the volume a bit. It does say to do so on the first inner sleeve.
- I am very sorry but this remaster is god awful. RS might well be one of the greats; perhaps decades of playing live hasn't been kind to his hearing?
The RS remaster - as with Disintegration and Wish - is muddy as hell (that mid-bass boost he loves) adversely impacting clarity and perception of everything else: dynamics, air, timbre, soundstage.
For the record, I thought his remaster was bearable on parts of Disintegration (some songs were better served by the remaster than the famed US DMM promo cut, which I also own). However, on Wish and Show we just have a very poor sounding and congested release that undermines the music. The performances might be great, but the sonics are poor.
I A/B'd 'Fascination Street' on 'Show' with 'Fascination Street' on my UK original pressing of 'Entreat' - again, I wish I had something different to report, but the RS remasters are poor, there's no getting around it. - Sounds great! Really separates the vocals and Pearls guitar work is superb! No play back issues, discs nice and flat (no dish/warp) inner sleeves are fine (not wafer thin as implied by the entry info) reasonable quality paper etc. Open it, put it on loud and enjoy!
- Edited 14 days agoHaven‘t even opened it yet and I already do not like what I see:
- it’s pressed at GZ Media (stickered „Made in Czech Republic“)
- poor print resolution of the sleeve, it has obviously been scanned and scaled
- the original print with the matte and glossy surface finish of specific elements has not been reproduced
- flimsy and cheap paper quality of both the jacket and the additional litho print
Luckily, I also have the original pressing. Highly disappointed by the look and feel of this reissue. This will most likely be staying sealed in my collection.
