Mind blowing. This is simply the best sounding pressings of these songs I have ever heard. You can actually hear the tape cuts where BW splices the tapes together. It's unbelievable.

The outtakes (while available elsewhere) help justify changing the belt to play at 78 rpm.

Which versions are on the A & B sides? Smile or Smiley Smile?

What a massive crock of shit. this has nothing to do with music and everything to do with "Rock's Rich Tapestry (TM)". Can anyone tell me where i can get the loudest possible version of 'Good Vibrations' to play at my disco? one that runs at a speed that can actually be PLAYED, please.

This collector 'Record store day' item is a perfect opportunity to seize the 'pocket symphony' concept for which the Beach Boys (and Van Dyke Parks) were renowned around '66/'67. Already present in various Beach Boys rarities and outtakes compilations and here finally receiving a long deserved full side treatment, the 'Alternate Take' of "Heroes And Vilains" is a truly exceptional experimental pop music masterpiece made of short segments perfectly matching together despite their differences in rhythm, mood and tone. Basically in just under 3 minutes you get a fireworks of ideas and harmonies that 99% of the pop bands of the last fifty years wouldn't put together in an entire career. Like an overview of all the key attractions from the best circus in the world summarized in charming 20 seconds sections. Stunning.
(Edit : but be careful, this item for some reason is on 78RPM so one might need appropriate equipment to play it. I mean 78RPM was already over even at the time of the making of this song, so i guess this might be some record company executive's LSD comeback, which in a way is sympathetic).

Mine is stamped #5715... I wonder if this is similar to the situation that happened with U2's Wide Awake In Europe 12" that was released on Black Friday, I heard they noticed a problem with some pressing so instead of re-numbering the replacements that made (at the time of the original pressing) they just stamped some higher numbered ones (seemed fishy to me when I heard that).

Weird that my copy is stamped with #5937 since it's supposed to be limited to 5000, right?
