Fantastic album from SW, from Ninet Tayeb's contribution to Jack Dangers twiddling knobs here and there.... (loved his Meat Beat Manifesto stuff BITD).
Thankfully my copy is clean as a whistle and sounds excellent to boot.
Mine does have surface noise/light hiss but it is only noticeable in quiet and silent sections. While the music is playing the sound quality is very good and totally wipes it out.
Mine has surface noise after two Degritter cleanings. It’s especially bad at the beginning of side A and B. Pops and sibilance. It sounds like I should exchange it at my local after reading the comments here.
The new Steven Wilson album has arrived and I really didn't know what to expect but I should have. What you get this time is Steven still heavily influenced by electronic music from the Future Bites combined with shades of all his other solo efforts. Beautiful flat orange vinyl that sounds pristinely precise and clean with smooth deep bass. Track favorites thus far are What Life Brings, Rock Bottom and the closer Staircase. The title track is a bit monotonous yet maybe that's the point as a mid album stretch but side C is my least favorite on the album. I hate to keep beating a dead horse but I still like the Porcupine Tree stuff better than the solo material. Closure/Continuation was one of my favorite albums of the last decade and has received several spins during the past year. Don't get me wrong, I do like the album and I'm along for the ride on whatever he's doing and appreciate the brilliance of this underrated artist however the masterpiece that is Hand. Cannot. Erase. remains safe as his finest solo outing.
Just a fantastic pressing! Received last night, just finished my first spin after a few swipes of the anti-static brush. Noise floor is pretty much inaudible at a pretty loud volume, this is a very dynamic recording. The low end is deep, tight and full. The mids and highs are crisp. The drums are superbly recorded/mixed as SW always does. Just a damn fine sounding album.
Sorry for the few that got duds, hopefully they got replacement copies. I haven't even wet cleaned mine (which is something I normally do before it touches my stylus), and only noticed 3 or 4 small "ticks" across the album. Didn't experience any non-fill. Just completely blown away by how good this sounds. This is absolutely the best pressing I have purchased new in a while. As https://www.discogs.com/user/gquady09 says below, "Do NOT skip this one!"
A brilliant album from start to finish. Steven has done it again! Incredible songwriting and production as expected. My copy was totally flat and completely free of any surface noise. Do NOT skip this one!
