Reviews
- I initially got the black vinyl and it had pressing defects (warping and very loud, persistent surface noise on one track), so I returned it and got the red/blue, and I'm very glad I did, as it's much quieter and flat. Sounds great, too: bassier than the original (and has a bit of a higher-frequency bump too), but quite detailed, clear, and engaging.
- Wow. WOW! This is the definitive pressing. I have the OG version on vinyl and this one is far more dynamic and mastered to nea perfection. A fantastic pressing.
10/10 - Edited 8 days agoFlat, centered, and DEAD quiet! Excellent pressing overall - super dynamic, separation (no mud), punchy AF, and giant soundstage. With my system, I could barely push a 1/3 power without nearly overwhelming my room...def a "hot" pressing that simply slams. Side C is esp draw droppingly good...always my fav part of Substance.
x3 pre-orders cancelled due to low allocations, found one in Germany! I echo others here...I am so f'ing happy that this legendary album that changed my life was properly reissued / remastered.
Rega P3 w/TT-PSU, Musical Fidelity M5si, Dali Oberon 7's - I love the sound and the pressing is nice *except* that it's visibly off-center. I need to listen more to determine there's audible warble (the chaotic instrumentation and effects makes it a little harder to tell for me) but I'm already slightly disappointed. Adding it to my growing pile of otherwise fine pressings that are marred by this one issue.
- Edited 11 days agoThis is an excellent pressing, the colors pop on the vinyl and it sounds wonderful!
I think there are a lot of audiophiles getting caught up with the way it sounds, but instead of just reprinting they’ve cranked everything up on this remaster and it sounds very punchy, I think it fits the music very well and modernizes it. The old versions are out there for people with a problem here, but I am thrilled by the remaster. - An excellent remastered/reissued blue/red vinyl spawning some of New Order's best work! Very happy with this pressing!
- Edited 10 days agoIf you’re open to a somewhat muscularized version of New Order singles, then you’ll likely welcome this comp remaster/reissue. I do appreciate the more detailed low bottom, hearing more texture and extension. But, like in so many recent remasters of 1980s pop/rock/soul/dance recordings, the upper-mids here have been compromised. Their clarity has been slightly diminished; Barney’s voice sounds ever slightly recessed now. I miss the perfect upper mids from the original issues. Barney once said he thought their record(s) sounded too “tinny” to him. I prefer to describe them as “trebly” at times, but, not disagreeably so. To my ears this remaster goes a bit too far to remedy the low end issue. My motto is - the upper mids, the “air”, ought never be messed with. Not a deal breaker, though, as my discs are flawless, and I scored this set for under $40 ppd; it’s not worth more than that, in my opinion, and yet most copies here are listed for far above that amount.
- The Red and Blue version came out phenomenal. Mix is solid, press is great (black variant not so much very hit or miss). Definitely a must have for New Order fans.
- An absolute masterpiece of a compilation - I can play it to death. I had high expectation on this one, and I must have played the CD a gazillion times. The sound is rich and sometime bombastic. No pops, no cracks, nice colors - BTW, yes the CD had also a black bar on the side…HIGHLY recommended.
