- Edited 5 months agoThe pressing quality of Volume 1 was poor and so is the pressing quality of this box. There is a lot of noise between songs. That is excusable.
What's not excusable is the horrendous mastering on this Volume 2 box. Volume 1 was mastered very well by Daniel Krieger at SST. This new box was mastered by Joe Nino-Hernes at Sterling. All of the records in this box are bright and have thin low end. To make matters worse, there is a lot of distortion throughout. I'm not talking about Inner Groove Distortion (IGD); this is ALL groove distortion (except track 1 on some records). I've heard good things about Joe Nino-Hernes but every record in this box is an aural slap to the face and a huge disgrace to Billy Joel fans. Just buy original pressings. River of Dreams has horrible distortion as well and is barely an upgrade over the already controversial 1991 CD master. The only thing on here worth getting WOULD be Fantasies and Delusions but the pressing is so noisy that you can barely hear the music over the noise. And yes, I have cleaned the records. In fact, I ultrasonic deep-cleaned every record twice. These are the kind of records that sound decent UNTIL you hear original pressings. Then you realize how much better the originals are.
TLDR: Poor mastering and mediocre pressing quality. Don't waste your money. - Can anyone comment on the sound for The River of Dreams? I have an original Spanish pressing but I might jump for this if it sounds good.
- Edited 8 months agoA Matter of Trust is actually included in the running order for "The Bridge" - I saw this for myself on a YouTube unboxing video.
Also, my copy of the box set is not a mispressing - Side one of the "Live from Long Island 1982" has the correct audio.
