Under The Blacklight is the fourth and final studio album released by alternative rock band Rilo Kiley and features a number of guest artists including Jackson Browne, Alex Greenwald of Phantom Planet and James Valentine from Maroon 5. Available for the first time on vinyl since its release in 2007 and pressed on a translucent “blacklight” purple color.
As others are saying, this is a fantastic pressing! Dead silent, maybe one pop I noticed on the entire record. If you love this album, this is a no-brainer. So happy with this one!
Fond memories of this record - I worked at Gap around the time it was released and they played a few of these songs non-stop on their playlist… needless to say I know them well. I suspect this release is the best it will ever sound. Not up there with the sound quality of some other Jenny Lewis stuff (lookin at you Acid Tongue) but solid and detailed. Recommended - sound quality maybe 8.5/11 to me.
Like others, I’m thrilled this got a vinyl reissue. I’m a huge fan of this album, but the original pressings have always been scarce and expensive. Though I don’t have an original pressing to compare this to, I can say this one sounds fantastic. Mine is perfectly flat, with almost no surface noise. Definitely worth getting, especially if you don’t have an original.
Really happy to get this one! I've been waiting for the vinyl release for years. Nice clean pressing and it sounds way better then I expected. Nice big full sound. Really cool to get a record for the RSD price, only $27! Great job Chris Bellman and BG!
The vinyl is quiet and flat. I had only heard a few songs from this release prior to buying it on RSD. Pleasantly surprised with the quality of the songs and music. To me, the sound quality is akin to listening to a CD, it has a digital quality lacking warmth, but it is crisp and not unpleasant.
Very excited to finally have this for $25 vs. $150+. Sounds wonderful! Gave it an ultrasonic clean upon opening and it plays beautifully with zero surface noise. There is a tiny little chunk of what is most likely paper inside the vinyl itself but it plays with zero interference or noise. I’ve seen that before and it’s never been a real issue. Truly a fantastic cut by Chris Bellman and as far as QC goes in 2023, there is nothing majorly wrong with my copy. Very pleased.
y'all, this one is great -- it's silent, full and flat (no warps here in ATL)! glad to have this one to finally round out my RK LP set... and to pay a fraction of the price of all of those '07 releases, to boot!
