https://www.discogs.com/Cream-Wheels-Of-Fire/release/14686875 - Anyone have experience of stereo discs in a mono sleeve? Sleeve as in images here is 582 031/2 and there was once a narrow sticker following the numbers. Records are stereo - 583 031 etc. with what seem to be typical matrices in the run out. It’s possible it was a mix up in a record shop. U.K. shops in the period would often store the records behind the counter separately from the sleeves on display, so it would be not be difficult to muddle them up.
- My copy has tan/purple ATCO labels, with a reflective silver gatefold cover

Any help which edition this is? - Edited 3 years agoProducer Felix Pappalardi joins the band on additional instruments including viola and tonette, so disc one is actually credited to the Cream quintet. Whilst not as cohesive as Disraeli Gears, you witness all aspects of their work, most importantly the soaring live performances. The album starts off in a familiar style with one of their most abiding tunes, the riff laden, heavy rock of the classic "White Room", followed by the amplified cover of the blues classic "Sitting on Top of The World". Then for the next three tunes it all gets a little more Avant Garde and the rest of the first disc is a bit of a mix. The second disc is all live. Side C is one my favourite sides of vinyl, their pièce de résistance. Clapton is magnificent throughout the album, and his solo on "Crossroads" has to be one of the best live guitar solos ever captured on record - Robert Johnson must be rocking in his grave. "Spoonful" starts off as an earnest take on the Howlin' Wolf classic, then it all gets a little looser. Gradually the bass starts to get a little freer, Clapton frees himself from the riff, Baker starts to stretch out and they embark on a lengthy jam, hypnotically building up and breaking down, before returning back to the motif. Side D has over time grown on me, but it's the weakest side in my opinion; Clapton sits out as Bruce's harmonica playing is showcased on the rather dull "Traintime". This is followed by Ginger Baker's "Toad" which starts off OK before entering into a self-indulgent drum solo, lasting the best part of 16 minutes. Wheels Of Fire may be the album that best documents the true nature of Cream, but I personally prefer Disraeli Gears
