- Edited one year agoI've re-listened to my shaded-dog stereos of this and they really sound muffled when compared to the shaded-dog mono which is now my go-to version for this LP, with much better clarity. I have no idea what happened with the shaded dog stereo! But the Mono shaded-dog sounds amazing, IF you find a minty copy. Many quiet passages.
- Edited 2 years agoMysterious Mountain is a gorgeous and magical masterpiece. A lovely integration of western classical and eastern tonalities. And it occasionally rocks in a classical sort of way. I have the “shaded dog” stereo and mono - Alan Hovhaness / Igor Stravinsky - Chicago Symphony Orchestra | Fritz Reiner - Mysterious Mountain / Divertimento (From The Fairy's Kiss) - and they’re both nice pressings. However, make sure you get a NM- or better copy (no rotational ticks, at the very least) as there are a number of quiet passages where ticks and pops will break the spell. Someday I’ll get around to listening to The Fairy’s Kiss!
