Reviews
- Edited 16 years agoA very unfairly overlooked example of early synthpop, this record is definitely one of the shiniest gems of the era. Synthpop lovers probably know the track "Drop Your Pants" thanks to its irresistible eroticism and singable, foot-tapping hook ("Drop your pants around your ankles / You make me shiver when you deliver"). Clubgoers from the era will probably also recognize "Kinetic," which is an interesting take on growing old and remaining youthful. The b-sides also merit a listen: "I Live" is a wild, unpredicatble track that's totally danceable. "Goose Step Two Step" is a downtempo lover's dream -- the kind of track that makes you feel as if you're sitting in a smoky lounge.
The really cool thing about this record, though, is that Hilary really doesn't sing a note. Rather, she talks her way through the entire record, and it's effective because of her sexy voice and delivery. It's not rapping, mind you, just talking.
Grab this record (if you can find it -- it probably won't be easy) and give it a listen. If you love synthpop, you won't be disappointed.
