Hype Sticker: "Black Sabbath Master of Reality VMP - RR007 - AAA Lacquers Cut From the Master Tapes by Ryan Smith, Sterling Sound - Pressed on Exclusive 180g Purple Orchid Splatter Vinyl - Listening Notes Booklet by Andy O'Conner - Includes Foldout Poster VMP ROCK RCV1725691 / 081227818999"
What a beautiful record. I love the OBI, the booklet inside, the vintage poster.. the color of the splatter like the song (Orchid) and the sound is phenomenal.
If you're a fan I'd suggest get a copy until prices are reasonable, it's fantastic
I have the UK 1st pressing and the German1st pressing and this blows them both away. Technics 1200G with Vertere Sabre through Gold Note PH 10 with PSU.
Absolutely phenomenal clarity, punch and a huge soundstage.
About freakin' time this came after the many delays since early last year. Was almost going to get a refund if there was one more, anyways this was absolutely well worth the wait.
Think it's my favourite splatter vinyl, cover and the extras are fantastic. Sound wise I've never heard classic Black Sabbath so clear, while still having that rawness we love about this era.
Since I'm international, what a way to end buying from VMP. If they do something I love well I'll get it some other way
I’m a sucker for coloured/splatter vinyl so out of the gate I’m all in. The good….exceptional mastering just sounds fat and wide. Probably has lost alittle of the muddiness which was characteristic of this album in general ( that can be good or bad depending on ur take??) the sleeve booklet, poster and artwork in general are top draw. Absolute quality start to finish. The bad…..:the f’n 360 day wait….WTF?? VMP have likely lost some costumers for sure.
Excellent excellent pressing, color and packaging. This finally arrived for me 363 days after originally ordering it from VMP, and while everything about the record and sleeve itself is great and I highly recommend it, it will always remind me of how VMP went so downhill so quickly - which is really a shame.
Ok,packaging is marvelous. Now to the point, music. I've listened to this album hundreds if not thousands of times, from different sources. This version, this cut, gave me goosebumps after many years that i've been listening to it! I think that's all that matters...
So I was one of the unfortunate ones that was in the Rock Track when this originally dropped but was forced to move due to "Limited Availability". I was pretty ticked and despite all efforts to swap and get one for a decent price, I was un-successful and refused to pay re-seller prices.
Then this repress was announced so I ordered mine within 7 mins of them dropping. In my infinate wisdom I ordered 2 copies so I could have a play copy and a "Reserve Copy". Through delays, company issues, etc. I held tough and after right at a year of waiting for my pre-order, I was graced over the weekend with my 2 FRESH copies of Master of Reality.
It was worth the wait. The splatter is beautiful and the sound (for a record with the limited fidelity to begin with) this sounds awesome! My hope is that Rhino Hi-Fi does this soon in which case I expect that to stomp this but this thing is FANTASTIC. Both my copies were dead quiet after a run through my VPI vacuum and flat. For the $32 I paid a piece, shipped. I can't complain. I now have a copy in my play stack next to my turntable, and a clean, flat, reserve copy on the shelf that has been cleaned, play tested, and then packed back up to keep.
I am no longer a subscriber so glad my last interaction with VMP was a positive one.
Packaging-wise this one of the most beautiful records I received in a while, everything is of the highest quality: The deluxe spot-varnished sleeve really is a work of art and the poster and the booklet are of thick, matte paper. Even the resealable protective outer sleeve is of great quality.
The pressing quality is the only thing here which is just good. I have moderate surface noise when it's quiet and even a few ticks (I didn't give it a wet clean yet though). The disc isn't thick and basically your standard retail quality you find everywhere. For such an expensive, deluxe release I would expect a bit more, even if it's just GZ.
The mastering really makes up for that though, dynamic, heavy, analogue sound! The drums are big, punchy and natural, the bass is super thick and the vocals have an outstanding clarity to it. I have to say though that my mind wasn't as blown here as with the Rhino High Fidelity issue of Black Sabbath's debut. I'm sure we'll also get this album in that series one day, can't wait for the comparison what Kevin Gray will do with it!
