- Edited one year agoOne of the best ever ,pure fire /ice cool ,high vibrational frequencies, always gonna make you feel better ,even the cover is absolutely awesome, exceptional 😃
- Edited 3 years agoAfter trip-hop/d'n'b soundclash, for me, music really starts at 8th track. So, from there, we have 30ish minutes of quality freestyle downtempo.
- Edited 4 years agoI remember that this release was in the freshly delivered box full of new arrivals at my favorite record store one brisk Saturday morning in '96; they had it both on vinyl and CD. I listened to and skipped thru the CD for about a minute and immediately bought it. What an amazingly superb DJ mix it was - and still is. The sequence of the chosen cuts, the transitions in the mix from one track to the other, the overall sound and feel of it; as they say, "they don't make 'em like that anymore". Now, writing this, summer 2020, I realize that it's been 24 years (which sounds quite frightening come to think of it, as it doesn't seem that long ago at all) since I got this one and the fact that I still regularly play it, says something about the quality of this particular DJ-Kicks. I once advised a good friend to have this one on in the background at the official opening of his gallery and it worked. The exclusive and slightly posh atmosphere (luxurious drinks and an interesting, fun and altogether pleasant crowd) merged perfectly with the music and gave the night an extra special touch, with guests continuously asking what it was that we had on. If you, on the other hand, play this one when you're having a lush breakfast with the one you love in the morning summer sun, it's a perfect way to start the day. Last but not least it can also be the right set to listen to if you just want to kick back with your feet on the table and enjoy some outstandingly good music. In '96 I lived a different life and this mix compilation, together with many others from those days, take me back to a time when life seemed simpler, easier and free - and all that conveniently packed in a superb DJ set of about 75 minutes. Get it. It's a must have.
- Edited 4 years agoIs the James Bong Dub mix exclusive to this compilation? I can't find it anywhere. Sadly its not on the unmixed vinyl version of this comp.
- Undeniably superb. Bought this when it was first released. As strong today as ever (now 23 years). Brilliance never dies. Melody, fusion, beats - this has it all. Absolute timeless classic release. Do not even doubt me - you WILL love this.
- Arguably one of the strongest DJ Kicks releases, blew up Thievery Corporation and is a great trip back to the late 90s.
- This is a splendid and timeless concoction of all the sounds and vibes that put K & D on the map of music - jazzy liquid D'n'B; twisted, electronica-infused hip-hop; nu-jazz and shuffling bossa sounds.
It's the ideal smokers delight: it is excellent as stimulating background vibes for social gatherings and chilling alone with your thoughts. Generally uplifting and positive, but very interesting, contemplative and conducive of thought.
Buy it and see what I mean - the fact it is 11 years old is irrelevant, and you'd never guess or think about that. A sign of a great mix is that it stands the test of time.
