Since the Mid-'60's, "Isaac Hayes" has been a MAINSTAY in the World of Music....Whether it was Writing, Producing or Performing, "Isaac" PURELY became a HOUSEHOLD NAME!!!!! The problem was by the Mid-'70's, things for "Isaac" would become VERY HARD!!!! One thing is, the Record Company that he gave SO MUCH to in "Stax" (after FIGHTING SO HARD), closed down...This seemed to have left "Isaac" with nowhere to go..

The good thing is that, because "Ike" had an IMPRESSIVE Resume, he was able to weigh out his options...So first thing he did was to take the Money he made over the years, and invested on HIMSELF!!!! He Created HIS OWN Record Company, "Hot Buttered Soul Records" ("HBS" for short, and Distributed by "ABC Records"), as well as his own Studio (with the same name).....He also brought along his "Isaac Hayes Movement", and together Created the next offering in "Chocolate Chip"....

With this one, "Isaac" knew he had to incorporate new sounds into his Music, but at the same time, he didn't want to loose what made him the Artist that he was...

With that, the album starts with "That Loving Feeling"....The only outside Written song of the album ("Tony Joe White"), the Music had an updated shorten "Isaac Hayes Movement Arrangement" Groove Crown Jewel...The stars on this one was the Guitar Solo and Saxophone Break courtesy of "Charles "Skip" Pitts" and "Bill Easley"....I LOVE this joint, but HONESTLY I would not have started the album with this one....

"Body Language" is a HEAVY Smyth Keyboard joint....Still with those HEAVY "Isaac Hayes Movement Arrangements" this is a pretty nice Crown Jewel...It takes be me back to the Movie Theater...It also introduces a new signee to the "HBS" Label in ,"The Masqueraders"....

"The Masqueraders" ("Lee Hatim", "Robert Wrights II", "David Sanders", "Harold Thomas" & "Sammie Hutchins"), these Brothers started in "Dallas, Tx" back in the "50's...They Released several singles over the years, including a HIT in "I Ain't Got Nobody Else", but continued to STRUGGLE....They NEVER had a TRUE Record Deal until they met "Mr. Hayes"....With that they FINALLY got to Record their FIRST EVER album in, "Everybody Wanna Live On", with "Love Anonymous" following in '77 (when I get a chance, I will review them).....

Getting back to the album, "The Title Track" (also featuring "The Masqueraders"), is next....This Ultimate Crown Jewel, has that SERIOUS GET DOWN FACTOR!!!!! It gave the "Disco Dancefloor" a SERIOUS "Isaac Hayes Movement Arrangement", that also has that Movie Theater feel!!!!!! My only gripe is that there is an Instrumental version on here as well...I would have preferred a 10 minute OPUS of this instead (will expound on this later)....

The next Crown Jewel, "I Want To Make Love To You So Bad", has been sampled SO MANY TIMES!!!! I LOVE the Music changes on this BAD BOY!!!! I know that it is 4:17, but I wished it was LONGER!!!! Because of that, this ROUGH EDGE Groove gets REPEATED CONSTANTLY!!!!!! (And the Guitars ARE also FIRE!!!!!!)

"Come Live With Me" is a pretty nice "Slow Jam" Crown Jewel....It just continues to SOLIDIFY "Ike's" stake with the Slow Melodies....

"I Can't Turn Around" is pretty Groovy.....Even though I like how the Melody goes UP and DOWN, I just feel like something is missing....I do like how "Ike" has the "Movement" Groovin' toward the end though.....

So, at least right here, it seemed like "Isaac Hayes" landed on his feet....

So, I know I named a bunch of Crown Jewels here, but I didn't include this in "Ike's" album Revolution...Why? Well, if you really think about it, this just doesn't COMPARE to his Classic stuff....I know that might be a little harsh to say, but that's how it feels....

Also since I am the WIERD WIRED Guy, I have a Vision on the way the album could have been arranged slightly better:

Side 1: "Chocolate Chip" (Part 1 & 2), "I Want To Make Love To You So Bad", "Body Language"
Side 2: "That Loving Feeling", "Come Live With Me", "I Can't Turn Around"

But as I ALWAYS say, that's in my head.......

So be that as it may, "Chocolate Chip" is STILL a NICE addition to the "Isaac Hayes" Saga!!!!!!
