- Edited one month agoI have an ortofon 2m blue with a cambridge axa-35 receiver with Pioneer cs-g403 speakers, so a modest set up but not bad whatsoever. I bought this through Amazon and hated it as soon as I threw it on the turntable. Sold it almost immediately. Bad mastering, poor pressing quality. My 1994 CD sounded better than this by a mile.
- Edited one month agoAn average pressing. It works, not awful but not great. Usually not a good thing when I get a better sound from a CD or through my iPhone.
- Hopefully no hurt feelings here, but maybe a lot of listeners need to fix their tracking angle? I have zero issues with distortion or muffling on either side of my copy. I held off buying this. Glad I let go and did.
- Edited one month agoIt sounds fine for me, but side B of my copy has consistent crackle. Maybe cleaning will help.
- This sounds amazing!! I don’t know if I lucked out or what. Sounds amazing. Not sure what all the hubbub is about.
- Not to sound like a dbag, but could it be that lower end 'tables or cartridges struggle with this pressing and that explains the differences in opinion? There is a lot of information happening on some of these songs.
To preface, this is not my favorite album of all time or anything, so I'm not intimately familiar.
With that said, I don't hear the issues others are describing. Ortofon 2M Bronze on a mid-level Music Hall 'table. I rip to FLAC, and after jumping back and forth between my vinyl rip and Youtube Music, on high-end headphones I don't hear incredible differences. I definitely don't hear massive levels of distortion or things like that.
After wood gluing there is almost no background noise on my copy.
I don't generally review mastering, so I won't doubt those who say this is lacking in some ways, but I also don't hear anything terrible here that would make me say to avoid this pressing. - Horrible mastering, one of the worst sounding re-issues I own sadly. Keep your original CD it blows it out of the water.
- New copy,Ultrasonic cleaned...sounds amazing. Deep bass and clarity I don't remember from my original tape or cd. Happy to own a copy...especially at 20$
