I tend to agree with most reviews here. Good, but far from great. Streaming the same album on my iPhone from Spotify through my wireless DAC (same receiver and speakers!) sounds much better than this pressing. It just lacks any punch of "oomph", and feels a little hollow sounding to me.

I agree with all the people saying this sounds thin. It sounds okay but a bit disappointing. Drums are so recessed in the mix and I can’t fathom why they made that choice. Vinyl is flat and mostly free of surface noise, but sonically this is not up to snuff compared to other recent AIC re-releases. Bummer

First off, I’m not a super fan so take that for what it’s worth. The only other AIC release I own is Sap, and tbh this will probably be the last one I buy. The rest of their output is just ok to me, but these two EP’s are some of the best music released in the 90’s. The packaging is nothing fancy, especially for an anniversary pressing. Plain single jacket, plain black vinyl. Slightly warped straight from Amazon, but mine sounded flawless without any cleaning other than a light brush. For $20, I’m happy to have a copy. The audio quality sounds fantastic to me. I have never heard any other version to compare to, but this album was mastered well to start with. The loud parts are loud and the quiet parts cut to the bone. If you have to have the best sounding version of this album, this may not be for you. However, if you’ve been watching the prices on Discogs the last couple years and you just want to own a copy, this will suffice for most.

Long time vinyl collector here, I compared this to the MOV pressing and this one sounds just ok but the MOV sounds a bit better. The vocals on the MOV jump out a bit more as well as other instruments. This sounds simply ok. Not sure why the Dirt repress sounded so good and this one just sounds blah. I would recommend the MOV over this one. But to be fair it’s not as awful as many complain about, it just sounds like most other run of the mill represses with no real effort put into it. This pressing is too compressed with no vinyl warmth. The MOV is no audiophile pressing either but it trumps this one. I also have to recommend streaming this on Tidal over buying this pressing.

Sounds like garbage. Very disappointed. Sounds much better on Tidal. Save your money.

Agreed with all the reviews that says it's harsh in the mid/highs and muddy in the lows. Plus, the drums are buried in the mix, sacrilegy! The drums in this EP are so live, so clear, full of tone... delicious sound of that era! Here in this remaster it sounds weak, lost between the muddyness and the awful vocal distortion. I was expecting more, I'm really dissapointed.

EDIT: yes, as soon as I get it in my hands, the first thing that I do was a deep and long clean session bc it was full of dirt (lol), so... It's not about an 'unclean record situation'.

I always take reviews with a grain of salt, but what a way to ruin a classic. For me the vocals half way through I Stay Away are almost unbearable through the middle of the song but clears up a little. However, on No Excuses the vocals are absolutely butchered. The vocal distortion is horrible and obvious. Side B doesn't seem to suffer at all.

Edit Cleaned my stylus and that has helped tone it down somewhat to become a bearable listen during the bad sections.

Whoever messed with the mix on ‘I stay away’ bringing the strings in early at 2:06 (first chorus) is an absolute fool. It sounded great the way it was with the strings coming in the first time Layne sings the chorus, another pointless addition to an already perfected work

It isn't awful, but has moments of good sound. Everything I play this record I seem to find some sort of flaw. Whether it be the mids sounding distorted, highs sounding harsh etc. Compared to the MOV edition it is nowhere near the same mastering. $22.99 seems pretty fair being that it isn't super special. The acoustic sounds are not crystal clear. Muddy at times.
