Reviews
- Edited 2 months agoNice and quiet pressing. Good balance between voice and instrumentals. No pops or skips. Seems like a high quality press.
- Edited 5 months agoThis is a beautiful pressing, very warm and quiet. Perfect treatment for the AAA recording :) also my copy is a greyish purple with rainbowy marbling and I think it fits the cover perfectly.
- I was drawn to this album because of Adrianne Lenker's hypnotising performance of Sadness as a Gift on the Jools Holland show. Sitting with her guitar, alone on a plain chair, such an intimate, minimalist, solo performance isn't the easiest to master, whilst managing to hold attention throughout.
This is a flawless pressing of Lenker's album. Everything is carefully considered. In between each track there are possibly the longest gaps I have ever noticed on a record. (Maybe five seconds?) Because the songs are so thoughtful, the longer gaps give each song an independence. It's a nice touch. With vinyl it can be asking for trouble . . . but as the gaps are pretty much perfectly quiet, you just relax and enjoy the beauty – silence and sound, all produced perfectly.
The vague description of 'recycled colour' had me wondering if I'd get a s**t brown record. My version is kind of lavender marbling, with reds, blues, whites – fittingly sombre, beautiful. Printed lyrics on the high-quality inner sleeve. What a relief! With good music, I do like to sit down and read the lyrics, and the lyrics are a strong centre to this record. However, Lenker's singing style is precise and you can clearly hear what she is singing, about her life, dogs, relationships, love, death . . .
The inserts are good, the photography is personal and beautifully shot.
A fantastic record. - I read a lot of negative reviews about the recycled vinyls' sound quality. So I had my doubts but I went ahead a grabbed a copy.
I am so thrilled as it sounds warm and quiet. - I was worried this would sound awful cause I’ve never had recycled vinyl before but it sounds amazing! Love the extended intro on Evol - plus my copy is sparkly!!! Couldn’t be happier with it
- Edited one year agoPicked this up today from my local US shop and it’s a nice pressing. Super quiet and a huge sound quality improvement over the Spotify streaming version I listened to yesterday. Glad to have a nice pressing of this minimal album. According to the promo material on the 4AD site it’s AAA. My copy is a marbled dark lavender.
I’m not sure what the difference is between this listing and the other recycled vinyl listing. This one doesn’t have the line about limited edition on the hype sticker but was colored. - I took a risk based on the awful reviews of the recycled vinyl and am glad I did. Seems like I was one of the lucky ones. Sounds excellent and little noise. The music is stunning and needs quiet vinyl.
- I've got my copy from the artist store and my a side is awful. It sounds like if someone played this from a smartphone speaker, recorded it and played it again.
The b side is a bit better but this is a huge let down.
