Really dissatisfied with probably one of the sloppily and most hastily released major-label debut albums of recent times. Where should I start?

But first the positive, because musically there are some good approaches here. And I'm glad Tyla (6) stayed true to her South African/Amapiano roots. Tyla (6) - Tyla is actually pretty good and definitely entertaining. And most of the songs sound quite captivating.

However, the “LP” is too short and seems very unfinished and half-baked. Honestly, if this is the musical level of new releases, then artists like Tyla (6) need to be careful in the future, because TIKTOK's new, experimental ByteDance AI song app already lets you create better songs yourself 😳.

Furthermore, how did Tyla (6) think she could get away with adding three (!!!) versions of “Water,” with the Marshmello (2) remixed version being particularly terrible, by the way?

Imagine if e.g. Ariana Grande had included her latest hit “Yes, And?” three times on her recent, really good, successful Ariana Grande - Eternal Sunshine comeback album? Exactly! No ambitious, serious artist would do that.

☝️This applies to every singer/musician: If you don't have enough good and compelling song material for an entire album yet, don't release it until you've actually finished the job!

Frankly, Sony Music should have pulled the plug on not only Tyla (6)’s planned, almost already sold-out US/European tour, but also on this album for the time being. Sony Music probably saw some of the problems coming. I assume for this reason, none of the usual advance album copies were presented to music journalists for review - a practice that also often occurs not only with movies but also with LPs when it is obvious that the product is flawed.

Tyla (6) has received tremendous, advanced praise. For good reason, I might add. Or who wasn't impressed by her amazing live performance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”? 🤩.

Quite a few, for example, even saw how a new type of Aaliyah (R.I.P.) might emerge with her. In my opinion that was of course totally presumptuous and silly in the first place. And to be fair, Tyla (6) was never able to live up to these totally over-inflated expectations in such a short amount of time from the start.

On the other hand, the Tyla (6) - Tyla album is also no way to start a still promising career with so much (cross-product) marketing potential. Sony Music & Tyla (6), etc., please go back to the drawing board and surprise us with something truly worthy of her talent!

PS: In case you missed it. This is how a really great debut album is created: PinkPantheress - Heaven Knows. Well produced, original and fun and also much, much better! 😊👍👍.
