Juicy Latin funk with Ocote Soul Sounds' album TAURUS. The smooth sounds begin on "Primavera" and slide onto the crisp rhythms of "En El Temblor." They slow things down for the protest of " STTP (Speak Truth To Power)," which turns the track a bit wan, but compare that to the slick capitalist critique of "Pan Y Circo." Though they do what they do very well, after a while, the album as a whole feels one-note, despite the downtempo flourishes, as on "Agua Santa," which could pass for a lost Thievery Corporation track, or the delicate 6/8 rhythm on "Tumba del Payaso," arguably the strongest track because of how well it works with its time signature. Still, it's an enjoyable album, and that's no bull!
