- Finally got around to doing a comparison of this and the '04 pressing. My biggest takeaway is that there really isn't too much of a difference between the two. The remastered version is a bit quieter overall, but the bass is more prominent — really stands out on tracks like Float On and Black Cadillacs. And even with an additional song on each side, sides A-C only hold 17 min of music so there really isn't a loss in fidelity (and certainly no distortion). Both are dynamic, well-balanced pressings. I have to admit that I prefer the sequencing of songs on the remastered version. It's nice to hear Ocean Breathes Salty go into Bury Me With It, and for the album to end on Good Times. This will likely be my go-to listening copy going forward, but not because there's a major sonic difference. Simply a preference in track sequencing, not to mention the remixes are a nice bonus.
- Edited one month agoActually pretty happy with mine. I know some people here got bad copies but mine is one of the best sounding records I own. The studio talk before "The Good Times Are Killing Me" is so convincing, I thought for a split second someone else got into my room. Barely any crackles too.
Also, green and pink vinyl? Cosmo and Wanda, you ain't slick. - Edited 2 months agoMaybe I got lucky but I have listened to both records twice now this sounds decent to me. No inner groove distortion, no distortion at all, it plays all-round really nicely.
I would say for 30 EUR it is pretty fair really... of course, if you like the original cover, its unfortunate - but the music sounds great.
Some salty (sorry..) comments below that do not make a whole lot of sense to me. - Don't know if it's specifically my copy or not, but the surface noise on Side A and a lesser extent Side B are almost unbearable. Lots of static noise in the right channel when I have headphones. Thankfully, the other disc seems quieter, which is a shame because I love this album and the packaging is great.
- Can anyone comment on the actual sonics of this reissue? My concern is that they jammed more songs in per side leaving it susceptible to inner groove distortion.
- Seems like an obvious cash grab to me. New cover art, for no reason (pet peeve) --it's the same music. And it did not need remastering. I'll stick with my original copy, which I'm not sure where it was pressed, but it sounds amazing and it wasn't pressed at f--ing GZ like this one.
- Mine came with ring wear on the sleeve because they tried to put 2 discs in 1 sleeve. Colors and alternative album cover are awesome tho!
- I had to return it, the remastering is very good, but my copy has a lot of noise or pops. It's a shame, is a great album.
- Tons of scratchy surface noise on Side A in particular. Cleaned needle and brushed wax but didn't resolve. Rest of record is mostly clean but spots of surface noise throughout. Side A is hellishly noisy from start to finish. Good work on the remaster. Horrible work on the pressing.
