Los Chicarrons return to Tummy Touch, and they bring along their ROOTS OF LIFE. The Latin influence remains, but this album is definitely a trip to Africa. They also introduce some Afrobeat with "Kounandi" and "Ma Do Nar" and Afro-jazz in "Saramba's Song." The title track sticks firmly with the jazz, as does "Koko" and its galloping horn section. "Equal Opportunity" and "Mali Brass" have the horns go in a bluer direction, while the funk of "Bamako" and "Timbuktu" shows off their range. The final remix of "Ma Do Nar" pushes the percussion some, but keeps it still within the Afrobeat range. The roots may be not be deep but they hold the ground in place.
