Reviews
- Killer songs, killer authentic overdrived guitar and basic band playing sounds, fresh and feels live and full of energy. Soundwise a bit lo-fi lacking some dynamics but songs and energy replace it. Would love to have The insert thicker, like a full booklet with images and info of recording period. True back to The early White Stripes era. For me, best of The Jack solo albums. ELECTRIC GUITAR IS STILL ALIVE!
- Edited 4 days agoAny differences between the pressing of august ,where manny People waiting in line to get a copy and the new worldwide september release indie store blue vinyl? The lo fi sound is much better than expected, great Jack White album indeed. The pressing is also good no flaws for me
- U2 & Apple shoving Songs of Innocence onto all Apple Music accounts without users' consent: Everybody boos & gets mad at them.
Jack White secretly adds an unmarked record to customers' orders without their prior knowledge: OMG, he's a brilliant marketer and this is an amazing way to release an album! - Solid album. Obviously intentional but damn is this mix muddy, I mean, early White Stripes were no sonic masterpieces but JW has really stepped it up since then. I was a little disappointed in the fidelity but it's still a fun listen.
- I noticed that the oldest sales history and the original reviews for this album has been erased from this page. Thats weird!
- Edited 7 days agoGuess I got a good one - reasonably flat & quiet by new record standards, and sounds terrific cranked up.
Edit: spoke to soon, bad dish warp on side b, basically unplayable on that side.
JW needs to address TM’s sh*tty QC - too many of their releases are like this. - Edited 10 days agoMusic’s great. Vinyl sounds fine but nothing special. It’s a bit of a lofi, raw sounding album though so maybe it’s meant to sound the way it does.
Roll out of this record has been weird though. The random, white label copies with people’s TMR purchases was cool but I can’t work out if this coloured variant is limited or not. Seems limited but then people are saying they’re getting it easily from shops so…🤷♂️
I bought it from Flashback London through Discogs about a week ago for £35 (still pricey) but every other copy (at the time of writing) costs quite a bit more. The smokey blue is very similar to the Fear of the Dawn variant. If you can’t see it for a decent price, just get the black variant. The sleeve is of decent quality and I imagine that’ll be the same when it’s released in September.
p.s. I’m specifically talking from the perspective of being in the UK - Bought a copy from my local shop today. Some shops might have more than others (this was the only copy my shop had), but there are definitely copies floating around out there, and this one will probably become easier to find as time passes.
I honestly think they are just pressing copies and shipping them out at random. Rumors are floating around that a standard black version will be dropped in September.
