- I've had this box set since it was released and have only listened to a few of the discs. I have recently gotten into vinyl...
Just compared The Dark Side Of The Moon Original Stereo Mix (1973) 96kHz/24bit found on the blue ray against my 1973 1st press vinyl Odeon from Japan... While the mix on the blue ray absolutely sounds great, it's missing something that is found on the vinyl. I'm intimately familiar wtih the guitar parts in Time. Dave's solo on the vinyl... the sound mix crushes the blue ray.
Us and Them though is utterly fantastic on the blue ray. - I've listened to the new 2023 blu ray and the 2011 blu ray version from this Immersion set. If you prefer an analogue sound, the Immersion blu ray is the way to go. The new 2023 hi res remaster is more digital. To be sure it also sounds great, so it's going to come down to personal taste.
- Hard to believe that people will pay these prices for this amount of Chinese throw away junk? Cheap paper coasters, marbles and a scarf thinner than a polyester leisure suit. The audio is of course great but a little redundant just like all of the other box sets that really don’t deliver anything new.
- This is over kill to the max but it is one of the greatest records ever created. 5.1 and quad mixes are great fun to listen to. The other material is nice but seems like a lot of filler. Would have been nice if they just released the surround mixes alone. But if you are a Pink Floyd fan who must have it all, this is the cherry on the cake.
- Blu-Ray disc does not work in the US. sent email to <[email protected]> that I received off of multiple forums related to this issue. They are no longer replacing the Blu Ray disc. If you want the surround sound I would suggest getting the SACD.
- Discs 1-4 are poorly mounted in the bottom of the box and have been known to come loose even inside a brand new, sealed item. I've seen this happen several times. Why Capitol Records didn't take more care with the discs is beyond me. Fortunately the BluRay is inside a separate sleeve and is less likely to become dislodged and get scratched up. The BluRay is the best part of the entire box set. Incredible quality sound and great to hear in all versions: stereo, quadrophonic & 5.1 surround sound.
- The music part of the set is fine. But a scarf? Crappy marbles? And a frankly poorly-done oversized booklet with photos of DSOTM pants and cars painted with the DSTOM cover (and some of the photos used are actually below print resolution and blown-up???) C'mon, this is offensively against the grain of the album's original minimalist-as-maximalist aesthetic, and laughably amateurish. Who made the choices here? Do you think the fans are that tasteless? The whole "ultra deluxe" box set idea has obviously jumped the shark at this point. These particular words of wisdom from Morrissey more than 25 years ago never seemed more apropos: "Re-issue! Re-package! Re-package! / Re-evaluate the songs / Double pack with a photograph / Extra track (and a tacky badge)".
