- Edited one year agoAt the time, in the UK, The Sisters were generally considered to be over by the time this album was released - in fact by the time First, Last and Always was released the writing was on the wall. The EP's released in 1983 & 1984 were considered the real deal and I would still recommend that anyone starts there. The Reptile House EP or the Body & Soul EP are the pinnacle for me. Consequently I didn't give this LP much time when it was first released. Listening back now that was probably a little harsh. The singles hold up well even if I'm a bit sceptical about the overblown productions/choirs etc. My OG UK pressing still sounds great...
- Absolute masterpiece of an album! Andrew Eldritch really proved his songwriting talents by combining bombastic songs like This Corrosion or Dominion with dark and brooding songs like Neverland and Flood I. From a forty person choir to poetic lyrics about life, this album has it all and doesn't miss a single beat. One of my all-time favourites and one that will never age.
- This seems to be THE pressing to get of this album. I opted for a UK original after being disappointed by the awful QC on three copies of the Mobile Fidelity reissue, and I am so glad I made the right choice. The mastering on the is phenomenal, its crystal clear and so crisp it's almost sharp, while also having a great deal of depth and a kickass punch to it. Surprised it sounds so good for a 1LP. It feels almost as if Andrew is singing directly into my ear, and I'm not sure how to feel about that. Phenomenal sound and packaging quality from one of the most phenomenal not-goth albums of all time.
- Edited 3 years agoUpdate: Scored a Technics SL-B3 and a Harman Kardon hk 350i tuner and some Cerwin Vega AT-60s (all 1980s equiipment) and this first press sounds awesome!
- I think I am the outlier. I really do not like this album. To my young ears it sounds so overblown and overdone. There is no subtilty. It's just obnoxiously over the top. And flood 1 wow I hate flood 1. It has nothing to say and takes way to long to say it. It sounds like a parody of good goth. Maybe I'm too young but wow I really do not like this album
- Own a first pressing secondhand and will not part with it ever. It's another must own for any music aficionado. This pressing is incredible. I can't wait to get a quality system to crank it up on.

Their best album by far.
On ‘Floodland’ the balance between power and mysticism (or masculine and feminine) is just perfect. - Still sounds terrific and brilliantly produced - I bought this record second-hand recently and the quality is seriously impressive. So many highlights. The opening beats of "Dominion"..the seguing into "Mother Russia"...the heavy rhythms of "Flood I"...the bass riff on "Lucretia"...the gothic madness of "This Corrision". An absolute pinnacle that Eldritch sadly never reached again.
