the extended version sounds off, even when the HH comes in. i always found this version to be not that great to mix with. I prefer the shelter copy, and not sure why its so expensive for on the resell mkt

I must be in the minority but I prefer the original version on the Atmosphere ep. Just seems deeper, more soulful, more emotional to me.

I still can't believe I left this beyond in the crate while crate digging in Tokyo two years back. Last year it wasn't there, but I'm going back this summer and hope to see another copy this time!

Is it possible to better a reputed untouchable classic? Especially when you produced it in the first place a few years before, right in the golden era of house music? Well, to that question, Kerri Chandler answers yes.
Taking "Track 1" off the seminal "Atmosphere EP" from 1993, he strips it down to its essential beats and bass core (arguably one of the most perfect in the history of house), keeps only these obsessive, euphoric synthetic horns (and yes! finally makes you reconsider the '93 original's keyboard solo as "unnecessary"), toughens, echoes and spaces up the sound production a bit, extends the whole a little (45 seconds longer than in '93), and the miracle happens : "Atmospheric Beats (Original Extended Version)" is actually better than the original "Track 1", and very close to house music perfection in its ruff, sexual simplicity.
Absolute must-have for all fans of Kerri's ruffer/dubby side, and in my opinion more generally for any self-respecting house music collection.

Perfect deep house. (Very) repetitive horns laid over catchy synth chords, building a vibe that is at once accoustic and electronic. I find a lot of Kerri Chandler's stuff a bit esoteric and inaccessible, but this would get any house-head dancefloor pumping. As a record, it also perfectly captures pre-9/11 NYC optimism and an albeit short-lived golden age for clubbing in the city.
