I'll take a crack at the different versions question.

The single was originally produced by Alex Sadkin and released in 1984. I thought it was a nice continuation of the sound they had on the Into The Gap album. I'm aware of four commercially released mixes from this time, five if you count the b-side variation "The Lewis Carol". There were 7" and 12" versions of the UK and US mixes which were all released in the UK. There was no US release at this time.

At some point Nile Rodgers was brought in to finish the album and he reworked the track and it was released in the US and other regions in 1985. There are 7", 12" and album versions of the 1985 Rodgers mix plus the Alice variation which was included on the bonus EP.

I love Nile Rodgers but I always felt the original Sadkin produced versions were far superior. I wish they had continued with Alex Sadkin and hope any unreleased material is made available some day.

The US Remix found on the 2008 Deluxe Edition was previously unreleased as far as I'm aware. The US Remix found on Remixes & Rarities is from the UK TWINS 226 12" single. The original UK 12" singles are superb sounding and very dynamic. They're dirt cheap these days and my copies are dead quiet.
