- Can anyone explain why the interior of the gatefold features a photo of Ben Webster? I’m mystified …
- Are these a strict 1250 amount pressing? Will ORG music maybe press un-numbered editions in the near future?
- A must have if you dig hard bop/modal jazz. A killer set by SS & Co. Phenomenal pressing of only 1250 by Pallas. Nice, heavy, clean sounding wax. With good equipment, it will sound like they playing in the room with you, and you even if it doesn’t, you’ll still want to applaud as though you were. Expect these to go up in value a good bit. See one for less than 100 and it’s a steal.
- I’ve never heard this on vinyl and only know it from an early 90s CD I own, but this sounds SO good! Better than the CD. The 3 bonus tracks are great too. I love the large stereo spread. The drums and percussion sound like they’re in my room. Highly recommended for anyone who hasn’t owned this on vinyl or just anyone who loves masterfully played and recorded Jazz.
- I’m a huge Sahib fan, as well as of the other cats on thus recording— NHØP, Allan Botschinsky, Bjarne Rostvold, Alex Riel, are a few of Scandinavia’s greatest jazz musicians. However due to high cost of original pressings, I never owned or heard this recording before.
The jacket is sort of cheap looking and feeling, but my discs were 100% perfect and played silent. I ultrasonic cleaned them before playing. The recording is a wide-stereo similar to a SABA recording with the bass+guitar over the left speaker, drums right, and horns middle to right. Some would say it’s hard-panned or complain about it but it’s not unlike many recordings from this era. This is also not something you can “fix”. The fidelity is remarkable for a live recording nonetheless. Lots of presence.
Musically, like I said these are some of the best musicians on the scene at this time. Sahib plays flute, soprano and baritone saxes. Botschinsky and NHØP were both virtuosos from an early age— listen to any of their earlier recordings— Jazz Quintet 60, Bjarne Rostvold’s albums, really a deep niche to dive into!
The new 2nd disc of material is to the same high standard as the original album. Fantastic stuff !!
While I’m not a huge fan of RSD in general, there are always some gems like this and I have to give ORG some credit here— SUPERB release!! - Quiet, flat pressing. Great sounding recording with a wide stereo mix. I’ve never heard an original, so I don’t have anything to compare it to. I would highly recommend picking this up.
- Edited one month agoI bought mine earlier today at theingroove site for 44.90.
How’s the sound? Curious to hear your impressions.
I was in line at the local record store for two hours and the guy in front of me snapped the last copy… glad I found online the day after.

Update: got my copy and sounds fenomenal! Amazing music, swinging hard!
The recording, mastering and pressing are top notch. They look like playing in my room, nice instrument separation and dynamics. - Edited one month agoMy local shops were out of stock and a lot of them didn’t participate in RSD this year stating the stock usually sits. I was lucky to find a copy on eBay for $39.99 this morning. Don’t feed the flippers! Anyone care to comment on the sound?
