Reviews
- Edited 11 years agoDistant yet intimate, the pulsing rhythms and minimalist melodic motifs merge in blissful solitude. Meandering, lo-fi textural interludes and wafting acoustic fragments shape the whole of this collection, inviting the listener to pause, reflect. Harpsichord and electronics enjoy a close union here.
It is that moment on a sunset beach when you take one last, deep breath. - Edited 18 years ago"Tides", in my opinion, is Uwe Zahns best release by far. Nine perfectly arranged melancholic tracks, with a nostalgic sound comparable to Boards of Canadas "Twoism" or Boom Bips "Seed to Sun". A must-have if you`re into this kind of music.
- Edited 20 years agoWords by fellow reviewers cannot be topped as this is quite an eloquent album of warm soundscapes.
I put this soothing album on my MP3, in-ear headphones & i'm a kip. Sounds of the Sea, warm, organic electronics & beautiful chords. Probably best listened to near a sun-drenched beach on a faraway island, but really is an essential listen wherever you are.
Not your average Arovane album. Better! - Tides is a lovely work, superior to Atol Scrap -- much deeper and warmer. From the harpsicord on the opening track, "Theme," you can tell that this album has been more thought out and more fully rendered. The electronics are more fully integrated, as are the beats. A excellent example of the potential and power of electronic music.
- A quite breathtaking album. This is quite a different affair from Arovane's output on the Din label - much more laid back and organic in mood and texture. Skillfuly used samples of sea-birds and children playing help to create a tranquility that compliments the guitar playing of label-colleague Christian Kleine perfectly. On a similar note to naitsabes above, when city life becomes too much, I put this on the car stereo and head out to a secluded spot in the countryside, and stop the car to absorb the haunting beauty of this album in an idyllic setting.
- Edited 23 years agoWhat a wonderful album. The title "tides" describes it pretty well, it's like stitting on the bank of a huge lake, watching the wind playing with the waters. Very beautiful composed with warm sound, but also lonely and yearning.
