Reviews
- Brilliant record, nice packaging cover art and packaging with a poster. The pressing could be better though. The mastering is great but there is some crackling in the quiet parts of the record. When the music kicks in this goes away and the sonics are excellent. I've only cleaned this with my spin clean so far and have not tried a deep ultrasonic bath.
Music/mastering/packaging= 5/5
Pressing quality= 3/5 - This is a quality release and the copy I have plays very nice. Both discs have only the slightest warp; nearly imperceptible. The instruments are all clear and there is a prominent and satisfying sound stage. I particularly love the drumming on this Opeth release and they sound thrilling here. Good mix and master, not compressed, with plenty of room to crank the volume. I do hear a bit of crackling even after a thorough cleaning—as others have stated. Minus a star for that. This is my copy. There are many like it but this review is about mine. Without me to hear it, my copy is useless.
- Just spun this again because today is the 10th anniversary. This record, in my opinion, is superb. This pressing is flawless, one of the best sounding records in my collection. I highly recommend trying to track one down.
- After a proper cleaning, I haven't had any issues with this pressing. The sound is balanced and rich. I will admit, it was pretty dirty out of the sleeve, but easily cleaned.
- This is a truly awful pressing. Terrible crackling from the first listen. The more I clean it the worse it gets. It's not a Roadrunner thing because my copy of Pale Communion sounds spectacular.
