Dieselboy's A Soldier's Story is one of my favorite d'n'b mixes ever. I've been listening to this CD for a long, long time and it never gets old for me. I think it's a combination of nostalgia and a really good track listing.

Dieselboy certainly has more technically exciting or stylistically adventurous mixes in his discography; projectHUMAN and the The 6ixth Session both come to mind. But I love this late '90s style of hard d'n'b.

First off the album starts with samples of Half-Life and Quake II, which are still some of the best games ever made, so I'm kinda in love from the get-go. Then it's a couple of heavy hitting tech-step tracks followed by Tech Itch, Danny Breaks and the Usual Suspects all bringing the extreme heaviness. And special mention to Vertigo's Drained which is just a fucking monster track.

It's hard to explain but I just love these fucking simple but heavy basslines and combined with simple but effective drum tracks. It's just classic shit to my ears. I've been listening to this mix going on 15 years and I anticipate I'll be enjoying it for another 15!

I started out with Dieselboy when I was given a promo copy of projectHUMAN at a club in Ft. Lauderdale. I previously didn't like DNB that much but really did like that album. The problem with this mix for me is each track starts off with a new sound but repeats it over and over and over. If there is a break as soon as it's over it's back again. It is is dark and heavy though, but I guess I'm stuck with projectHUMAN until I find something better.
