An excellent recording from this French group who step outside the confines of simple "neofolk" to create something full of beauty and genuine emotion. The expressive vocals combine brilliantly with the acoustic guitar and background ambience to create an atmosphere redolent with sincere feeling. This is an expression of true Art, with songs such as 'The Rebellion’ and 'Within Our Hearts' possessing a particular stirring sound, while 'As Kings We'll Reign' and 'Nothing to be Proud of' evoke a more reflective mood. 'Wonderful Life' also possesses a particular, subtle charm - quiet vocals playing against a poignant melody…a song inducing a wistful feeling. This is a song whose beauty will not be soon forgotten. The track 'Sons of the Void' shows their ability to carry this form of expression over in a live setting as well. In fact, the emotion of this song is rawer than that of the studio tracks, lending it a particular resonance. This recording is highly recommended for those seeking a truer expression of feeling that most "neofolk" acts seem able to deliver. A quiet beauty lies here...
