- I looked at the 2025 RSD list twice, and for some reason, I missed this in the original listings. I was more excited by the Gil Scott-Heron release. A buddy sent me a photo after scoring his copy on RSD, and I was shocked it was released AND that I overlooked it. I wasn't able to get to my local shop until nearly closing time, but amazingly, they still had three copies (and one copy of the Gil Scott-Heron album)!
Super stoked, as, like many, I have survived on a CD burned from an OG LP. To score a copy and finally have it on record made my day!
Now, regarding the sound... it is quiet, and the wax is flat, but to my ears, the highs are a bit harsh and overall it doesn't sound as dynamic as I hoped. Before anybody asks what I am playing it on: Thorens TD 160 with a 2M Bronze cartridge. All of that said, it doesn't sound bad, just not as excellent as some have said. - Edited 4 hours agoI looked at the 2025 RSD list twice, and for some reason, I missed this in the original listings. This was amazing playing and I'm sad that it wasn't brought to the front like any other time I've heard it
- Edited 4 hours agoPicked up a copy 2nd day afternoon in Tokyo at one of my go-to stores; couldn’t believe it was still there.
As commented already. Great pressing, performance. Best RSD release in a long time
My JP store copy has Made in Czech sticker and matrix numbers match what’s in the Worldwide entry. Wonder if there is actually only one release - As mentioned before, great pressing and some great early Verve live songs (I don't think there is any better live song in the world than Gravity Grave).
The original intro and in between song samples are left intact, sound wise it's dynamic, full all in all a lively record. My only complaint would be that the packaging is rather simple, for the price (42€) and the rarity of the record they could have made some more of that. - Great pressing (flat, clean, quiet), sounds fantastic, way better than streaming. This was the real grail of RSD 2025
- I about crapped my pants at work when I was scrolling through the list of RSD releases and saw this was being reissued. And I didn't expect it to be at my local record shop this afternoon, but lo and behold, there it was. This near-mythological, uber-rare record that I've only heard as an mp3 from an OG vinyl rip. There's zero information on the jacket itself, but from the RSD site, "this LP has been mastered from the original analog sources with lacquers cut by Geoff Pesche at Abbey Road Studios." This pressing sounds superb to my ears, drums have a nice kick to them, bass is deep and rich, vocals are piercing, and guitars absolutely penetrate....the vinyl is flat, clean and quiet, with zero surface noise. This is everything I love about the Verve, the early Verve, the best Verve. Nick McCabe's guitar...oh my....the only time I saw them was on the Urban Hymns tour in Atlanta, it was a great show, they were on point that night...but I wish I'd been lucky enough to have seen them back in 1992, when this was recorded. This might be the best RSD release ever. Five stars and a happy face.
