After hearing parts of Merzbeat, Merzbird sounded even greater. One of the more "catchy" Merzbow releases, I often find the beats and loops of Merzbird stuck in my head. The only sometimes hard to listen to track would be Emu, only because of the shear repetativeness. The rest of the album makes up for it, and is completely solid. Although not for every Merzbow fan, Merzbird proves to be strong in composition, strong in beat, and an overall great album.

The Merz series of albums has produced some true classic stuff from Merzbow, mostly down to the inclusion of beats that in the past were mainly sampled from jazz records. The real highlight of that series is Merzbeat but this album really isn't up to scratch with a large amount of these releases. Opening track Black Swan is too repetitive as are a lot of the tracks which never really progress, though White Peafowl does make up for it. Not one of his best and certainly not for someone just getting in to Merzbow.
