- I've always been of the mindset that until you have made an lp -A to B at least one ,,ie recording, producing ,writing and even mixing by yourself that you're not really in a position to critique others work, labour or effort as it is a personal endeavour rather than your own vendetta etc it's a bit like asking a waiter to review the food rather than the Chef ,,,even though it's the waiter that will get the accolade for it's taste ? there are plenty of bands and groups I don't really feel and affinity with and as a music maker as much as fan who's been listening to Rap since 1987 I feel this hate towards Woods is kind of silly, we don't know his story or the narrative that's what he's trying to artistically present and I like it .
I think he's very unique and original in his presentation and guests,,the record is a great listen and as many others have said well mastered and sounds great sonically as much as story wise ,we only have our own story in this life and what is here is an insight into his perfectly formed with a very precise gift at making it visually compelling ,,I don'y ever think he''s been about making things outside of himself more about distilling his narrative and connecting with others who identify with these stories - Fantastic pressing, the sound is perfect through my setup. Zero surface noise. Couldn't be happier with this purchase.
- Edited 13 days agothis release is quiet as a church mouse with great dynamics. also came with proper inners and as a gatefold. feels high quality. so pleased to have this. best rap album of the year so far
- Time to pull out my bifocals and tweed jacket for another tedious Billy Woods album. Dude has one or two great songs in his entire catalogue that seem more like accidents the more familiar I become with his work. Woods clearly does not want to rock the party. He wants the exact opposite of that... he wants to paint starkly morose, disconnected lyrical imagery over disjointed beats seemingly just to be a bummer. It's like he has this constant need to let you know he's some kind of lofty street poet and not a rapper. Woods is biting DOOM lyrics and slipping them into his songs at an alarming rate. i cannot understand his affinity for Dumile based on his own music. DOOM gave us rich imagery, copious wordplay, jokes and literary references while still having an entertaining flow and keeping up with booming banger beats. None of that on offer from Woods, except literary references delivered in a pretentious way. I suppose it's no coincidence Woods also starting hiding his face a few years after DOOM's success. Might be fun to see what he'll copy next...
Somebody DM me if this guy ever decides to put out a hip-hop album instead of tryna write the great american novel in sentence fragments over throwaway backpack beats. There is literally nothing hip or hoppin about a Billy Woods release, and this is yet another entry in self-distributed self-indulgence. - Bout lost my damn mind on A4. Thought I was hearing a Public Service Announcement then the PSA voice found cadence and rhyme. Needless to say, first time hearing Bruiser Wolf. What a record.
- Edited one month agoSo happy theyve been able to make big runs of this wonderful album instead of the small 500 run ones of the past woods albums
- DO NOT PAY SCALPER PRICES. These are still available at Backwoodz Studioz website. Also, Rhymesayers and HHV (i think) if u are in EU.
- Edited one month agoThe record jacket is immaculate.
I dont know how they made it so good but they pulled it off.
High grade stuff.
