Reviews
- I originally knew of Mike Nock from a typically soft early 1980s ECM album called "Ondas" and also a piano solo release he did for the same label. I never ever deemed him of interest, well - not to my taste anyway. So, I was surprised when I found out about his fusion background and especially the wonderful The Fourth Way live at Montreal album "Werwolf" where he pretty much emulated what Wolfgang Dauner was doing at the same time. After that he also had a shortlived band called The Mike Nock Underground who made a not bad LP on MPS called "Between Or Beyond". Anyway, discovering all that is how I came to this, and I was especially curious too as this was also made during Charlie Mariano's finest era. It never quite lived up to expectations though, being much more jazz focused than I expected, even with Mike adding Moog synthesizer - the latter only given a little space, and also giving the music a slight soundtrack feel - the type of thing heard in many cop shows and police / crime movies of that era.
