- R2D2 has that obscure super rich analog style you shouldn’t avoid. I feel I am well versed enough to know it’s extremely far from the best Hardcore lol, but just because it’s not a banger, you have to admire its weird layout and bizarre elements used for the tune. A must have for the crate if you are feeling nostalgic and can appreciate music solely just for its time period.
- Dbridge on this release.
“The track ‘R2D2’ was my attempt at hardcore, it’s awful. The other tracks on there had 4/4 drum patterns going on, about 145bpm. This was at a time when labels were coming out of the jungle scene so we borrowed some money to press it up, 500 copies, but it didn’t sell very well and the guy we owed money to wasn’t happy. It got a little messy. As fucked up as it was in some respects it set me on this path." - I have three distinct copies of this record, all three have different cutting lengths, and run-out etchings.
The official release is stamped and has SWG-1 etched by hand (shortest run-out)
The test press is blank white label and has SWG-1 + cutting house etching (medium length run-out)
The bootleg is blank white label and has SWG-1 (long run-out)
The test press and official release have similar mastering, while the bootleg sounds different. The bootleg has very high sound quality btw, but seems like it was mastered differently (volume, clarity) though, this could be due to having less spacing between the grooves. - This records is a 93 tune for sure, the main sample for the tune english is from a soundclash dated 1993 Black kat V cannon held in jamacia
- Sound blow my mind everytime, very underground sound. R2D2 do this vinyl most popular and most wanted today, but English for me best part, voodoo jungle...
- Edited 10 years agoThe Sewer Monsters!!! R2d2 was the track that made me crave for the record back in 93 when I heard it on a pirate radio in London. Once I finally tracked a copy down I realised that the other tracks we're huge.. Just Dance For Me is pure junglist with amazing wobbly bass lines! Catch A Fire is a great stomper with dub bass lines! English is a darker affair which roughs up the dance floor!! All in all this is some serious bizznizz and ting and if you beg to differ you must be 6 foot under!!! Ps I've noticed that they we're also called the Sewerage Monsters? Is this correct or is it just a glitch in the discogs database?
- Edited 10 years agoIt could almost be bogdan raczynski or some other bedroom breakbeat loony, would love to hear the rest of it.
- I don't think I've heard any of the other tunes 'cept the R2D2 one which is a cheeky and obvious sampling dynamo with a great floaty, almost haunting series of breakdowns and shuffling style breaks...pretty low-fi and obscure-ish, but actually better sounding than my naff review techniques (!).
Anyone have this mega-rarity that can provide more clips please?!
