Reviews
- I can’t believe people are hunting down the vinyl version of this album when this 5.1 disc is still widely available (with extra content even). There is no better version of this album available. I upgraded my audio set up just for this release. If you dont believe me, David Bowie also recommended this 5.1 disc before he died. If only fans knew how good this sounds, maybe we would get more 5.1 mixes from Trent, but the world is a sad and unjust place (someone recently cussed me out on Reddit for making the same recommendation), so I don’t expect it.
- This SACD is a revelation for me. TDL is one of my desert island albums so hearing this in glorious DSD (and with the fine remastering job...so many times remasters are a butchering) is just pure joy. And, yes, the 2nd disc is great too. Some filler, but more than a few essential deep cuts to be sure. I just wished they'd give the same treatment to The Fragile!
- I just got this and popped it in my SACD player without any expectations. Immediately I was blown away. Holy S*** this sounds amazing. I am very very familiar with this album, and the 2 channel SACD Mix is spectacular and superior to the original cd release in every way. Dynamic range is huge, the clarity is insanely good, and the lows go low without being muddy at all. Easily one of the best sounding recordings in my entire collection. I can't comment on the 5.1 mix as I do not have a 5.1 setup.
- It's amazing that most pick this 2 disc set up knowing nothing about the sacd layer. Well, for those interested, it will blow you away. The 5.1 electronic clarity sends shivers up one's spine.
- A wonderful 10th anniversary release. If you don't want to pick up the remastered vinyl or WAVs, then I'd say this your best version of the album to pick up.
- It's worth noting that the track lengths of 'Reptile' and 'The Downward spiral' on CD 1 are different to that of the original 1994 release.
- Whether you are the owner of the original release or a newbie looking for alittle sonic mayhem in your ear, this is a must have for fans of Nine Inch Nails or just audiophiles out on the hunt for something that sounds out of this world. The packaging is excellently put together, the additional photography is awe inspiring and the remastered album is an aural treat, offering a depth and richness of sound that you suddenly realise isn't on the original release of this amazing album. The second disc is a must have for the hardcore fan and probably not as essential for someone just getting into Nine Inch Nails, but once you get to appreciate the power of The Downward Spiral, you'll be glad that 2nd disc is their to help you dig alittle further down that Nine Inch Nails spiral.
