Recorded at Trident Studios, London. A MainMan Production
Linda Lewis appears by courtesy of Reprise Records. Bowie's harmonica playing is uncredited on the LP.
This album comes in a gatefold sleeve with printed inner sleeve containing lyrics for the songs except for the cover version "Let's Spend The Night Together". Initial copies included a David Bowie Fan Club application card.
The record label has the following in brackets for the tracks being the locations where the songs were composed: A1 Watch That Man (New York) A2 Aladdin Sane (1913-1938-197?) (R.H.M.S. "Ellinis") A3 Drive-In Saturday (Seattle - Phoenix) A4 Panic In Detroit (Detroit) A5 Cracked Actor (Los Angeles) B1 Time (New Orleans) B2 The Prettiest Star (Gloucester Road) B4 The Jean Genie (Detroit and New York) B5 Lady Grinning Soul (London)
The attack on the guitar intro to Watch That Man is thrilling. The 2015 repressing is too smooth and polite, I got rid of it once I A/B'd them. Some of the 2015 pressings were fantastic (like The Man Who Sold the World), but Aladdin Sane was not one of them. Track down the original. Ronson sounds like he's wielding a chainsaw.
