Quoting the poster below "ischivezon"
oo o oh no they changed style how dare they :((((
"this album is so underrated is because genre - elitists hate to see their favorite artists do something that isn't old and in the past".
It may have more to do with fans of their older music essentially being psy trance fans who may not like dubstep, dumnbase or glitch as with their newest abomination "friends on mushroom"
I think fans have a legitimate gripe that they have changed their style, tell me - if Metallica produced a new album that was some kind of dogs breakfast fusion of Metal, Folk & RNB with a some Gospel vocals fans of their music would be justifiably upset so why should fans of a psy trance act who were producing truly inovative and powerful psy just accept their new shitty direction and be content with it. especially if it's shit and yeagh this is a pile of shit !!!
Their music is not even a shadow of what they were producing 16 years ago, as fan of the controlled chaos of tracks like "Hush Mushi" & "Bust The Move" this stuff is depressingly bad !!

dude this shit is still badass as fuck. the complex, completely over the top synth rhythms here are not mainstream or featuring a lack of experimentation whatsoever. you show someone who has never heard infected mushroom before this album and they aren't going to think bad of it, the only reason this album is so underrated is because genre - elitists hate to see their favorite artists do something that isn't old and in the past.

not that psytrance or their early stuff was bad. i'm just saying they changed style, not quality. they became more complex, warped, and brutal and took out their more dark ambient edge. this type of trade off i think maybe wasnt as good as what he had before but nothing to dwell over AT ALL. the mushroom has, and will always be a trademark of insane attention to detail and unusual production techniques and approach to music theory and structure.

This album has problems with consistency I feel. Never Mind, Nothing to Say, The Rat, and Nation of Wusses are all excellent tracks but the rest of the tracks on the album are mediocre to bad, and the Pretender remix while actually quite decent feels out of place.

I used to defend their approach to different styles, but they seem forever lost in the process. while there are some awesome tracks once in a while, they better suite a single release. For their albums, they lost almost all of their appeal to me. it seemed to get better with "legend of the black shawarma" - it didn't. vicious delicious all over again. but worse.

their songs now tend to loose the momentum over and over again. sometimes by ridicolous loud and disturbing effects. most of the time they don't fit - sometimes they completely destroy the mood they have build up. each track does it's share leading to a completely cluttered and unsatisfying album release. every new album. again. and again.

can't they just do double albums again? one side for us to get lost in and one side to show off... whatever they like to do now. it's not like it's bad. no, great ideas and all. highly skillfull and imaginative. but often they try too hard. it's so sad, really. usually i wouldn't care too much but their older releases contain some of my favourite music of all time, and to this day, i cannot find similar music that can wow me like they did a decade ago - just listen to "the shen".

They are still the best at what they do. Look at the album cover. You know how some say: "just listen to them a few times and you will get a feel and like them". Well, I have to say: Infected Mushroom defines that definition. For a newbie, the sound is overwhelming. But to me, that is its beauty. To really hear it, one has to listen to it more than a few times. The overwhelming becomes a symphony. At least when you are ****ed up. And that sums it up: Listen to it when you are ****ed up.

It sounds like Infected Mushroom went through an antibiotics cure: they are no longer infected. With this record we are afflicted with dumb "club dance hit music for the masses" that is utterly unappealing. Still, after their cure, they did not lost their technical sound production skills, they even gained great abilities at the use of dynamic range compressors: one may win a loudness war when playing this record. My advice: stay away from this crap.
