dr2016 It matters that they let everyone believe they did it themselves on decks at a time when most people didn't even know that you could use software to make a fake mix like this one. Real dj's don't lie. They mix LIVE. Some people have standards even if you don't.
teamcowper Who really cares if the North album was mixed on computer or turntables or thoughts and prayers? It contains a legendary selection of progressive electronic music that still gives me chills 20 years later...until those three house songs in the middle! It is truly jarring to experience some of the most engaging and beautiful sounds ever made in techno music (first 5 tracks), only to have some truly out-of-place vocal songs come along to make you want to rip your headphones off! It recovers somewhat before the end, but it's a little painful getting there! Oh well, I would argue most DJs have put songs on mixes that they wish they could take back years later...I wonder how Sasha & Digweed feel about this one?
Sebibaba83 This classic mix is absolutely timeless, and till this moment nobody could do the same. Ok let's be honest, the main winner card of the mix that so many styles were absolutely new and fresh this time,so much people never met them before , now times harder to show something new, everybody knows tech, deep, house, techno etc. but the mixes are not talks only about music, but selection and mixing. And S & D made it how others couldn't ever beat. This mix is absolutely a prophecy for wannabe DJ's and everyone who loves electronic music.
sy1975 I think I have to try and add some balance to some suprisingly poor recent reviews of this seminal mix. I raved in the 90's, we had mixtapes of our favorite DJ's (usually poorly recorded with no track listings). Imagine that Millenials? Then came the mix CD. Renaissance 1 was the benchmark - a classic to virtually all house heads. Unfortunately the flood gates then opended, literally 100's of mix CD's like ministry annual 34 or trance anthems 76, with the same tunes and bland mixes - you get my point. This came out in 96 - I had been buying tunes for years but the depth of originality in this mix was breathtaking. Yes Im a Sasha fan, but this mix was so well crafted (those that slam the fact it was not created on 1210's should look at the talentless DJs of the last 10 years with their laptops and shut up). The mix was fresh and so different to everything else out at that time. S & D were ground breaking. We are all different I still believe that musically this is perhaps the best soundscape on a mix CD I have ever heard. If you dont like it fine, go back to listening to Capital FM and buying yer tunes from ITunes!!
Booj1Boy Yes, we're aware of this by now, and many still consider it to be a classic. It's still a great listening experience today.
Souvlaki101 who cares? This was an epic release despite how it was made. It still takes a great deal of insight to visualize these tracks in ones head before either stepping up to the mixing board or computer . Regardless, these two were pioneers in releasing what is now defined by most to be an important release in this genre.
Vic66 Well said. It's music, not a turntablist competion some people are so dumb!
