In regards to dhollmusik's comment - the title isn't "the very best of" but "the very best OFF" (the best tracks aren't included!) which is yet again an example of dark Scandinavian humour...

This is a defacto sequel to Derango's seminal Tumult, seen as the lads have their hands in just about every track's production on this Horses album, curiously called "the very best of" even tho' it's the only release. I'm guessing the "horses" are Derango and their mates and this is the best of their collaborations over the years.
And very good it is too! Ambitious, psychedelic, with almost an avant-regard to forest psy. It's not an easy listen, if you fancy full-power forest to trance-dance to you might feel a little frustrated at the many stop-starts here. But if 'forest-head' is a subgenre (now it is) then this is the ideal album to represent it. A few highlights, I'd go Sea Biscuit, the jam-packed My Little Pony (with 6 different producers' hands in it) and most interestingly of all Strul-Ultra, which is Derango's take on psychedelic drum 'n bass. More of this, please! And more there is, just check out some of the musik on Sanato, still currently free to download: www.sanatonrecords.com/trips/
Horses just misses out on the top 5-star rating as it's a difficult listen at times, especially the first half. The 2nd half of the CD hits the spot better. Highly recommended tho' for Derango fans.
