I remember when this came out when I was in High School. At the time it wasn't in my headbanging genre of music so I passed on it. This is quite possibly one of the best sounding albums to own on vinyl. Spend the extra $$ and get a NM copy. You wont be disappointed!

If you dont already have this album its about time. One of the greats that will always hold up and what Chapman is known for. I can strongly recommend almost all releases made of the album. The music just naturally lends itself well to the DMM method and it sounds superb. NM condition copies with no crackles to disturb these excellent and delicate recordings are preferred.

Equipment Used:
Rega RP1 with Nagaoka MP-110 Cartridge
Cyrus 2 Amplifier
System Fidelity SF-3050Tower Speakers

Slightly ironically I suppose (as it was digitally recorded & mastered), this is one of the best-sounding records I own. The bass and little synth/SFX moments just really pop. It's also an absolutely classic album, with some superb, unpretentious, poignant songwriting. Really stunning.

This is not the sort of music I generally listen to, but it's one of those albums that I hear every few years and every time I hear it, it sounds great! Surely one of the best debut albums of all time! It does sound 'of it's time' - it was released in 1988 - but that doesn't mean it sounds dated. Not a bad song on the album, with 'For My Lover' and 'Fast Car' being my favourite tracks. I own a record shop and I'm currently pricing up LPs. This is the first one for a long time where I've not just tested the LP and moved on, but actually stopped for a while to play the whole thing through! If you don't own this album then you are missing out on a good thing.

bikeamtn - it's also one of the best DMM-mastered pressings I ever heard. A good many of those 80s Masterdisk DMMs sound a bit 'thin' and lacking in the bass department, however this one is pretty nice. I have the CD but the vinyl is my go-to copy.

As a white male born in the early 80's I feel like I missed out on so many black artists. I wasnt aware of it at the time but there was an entire culture and sound being ignored by the likes of MTV and the radio stations in Philadelphia. I've been a music head for as long as I can remember. My dad had a record collection that makes my current one look like peanuts in comparison. If I didnt hear brilliant music like this in the 80's there was obviously a movement to suppress black artists of the era.

I'm not saying that this got NO radio play, but based on how incredibly talented this woman is, its truly a shame she didnt get the exposure she deserved. The song "revolution" hits somewhere close to home in my mind as I do consider myself a revolutionary in the making. "fast car" is another obvious hit on this record but I can't say I remember hearing it a single time in my life other than when skimming youtube.

This all reminds me of that Wyclef "if I was president" track where he says a quote that stuck in my mind "radio wont play this. they call it rebel music"
