I've always had a problem getting into this album. It's not the melody heavy layers of Etnica or Astral, but neither is it the futuristic tech of Syb Unity Nettwerk or Semsis. Do I like it? Yeah it's pretty good, but it's far from the first thing I would reach for when I need a goa fix.

23 years later, and listening to this has brought back the feelings that so enraptured me when i first listened to this incredible album. Bittersweet now, as the expansive escape that this kind of trance promised turned out to be phantasms. But, god, i want to play this on a big system on a dark night once more.
If you've not heard it before, don't bother trying at home. this one needs substantial sonic power for the complete physical experience.

Expensive for such a poor quality, the mastering is bad, not clear enough trebles medium and the kick bass it too loud ! :(
it is a shame because the tracks could be better ; need to be remastered someday !

These two comments under me dont do the album justice. Darshan has amazing style and I really love that all tracks follow a red line. Many people like that a group find a sound a stick to it. There are jazz groups that have been doing the same thing over and over for 30 years+. Who cares? if they like it it's amazing and this album is no exception.

Always enjoyed the album and its bassline driven tracks and delicate "psy synths". amazing!

            Another (over) wanted Goa-trance album.

“Awakening” can be defined as the soundtrack of space. Imagine yourself travelling into the infinity of space, entering new dimensions in flying machines we always dreamt about, Awakening would be the perfect sound(track). This album is packed with sci-fi samples, dark creepy melodies occasionally and long passages of intros and outros which make you feel you’re travelling millions of light-years away.

Unfortunately tracks suffer from using the same formula however. On any given track there is no innovation. There’s little of what can be defined as true melody; except on “Tranceformations” which however ends quickly and abruptly after gathering a huge momentum. This could be the best track. Yet each track is so luring, possibly because the way each track starts and progresses initially makes you think it’s going to evolve into something huge, but no track really does.

Having been released on the legendary Flying Rhino Records is certainly the key why this release is so wanted and so hard to find (the CD, not the vinyl is rare – and the vinyl lacks two tracks one of which is Tranceformations sadly)

How much is worth spending on getting this I don’t know, but it’s still a nice album to have in hand and gaze at on your shelves. I’m sure it has its moments too and played at the right time it can send you there where you always dreamt to be; in space.

Dark, deep sci-fi tech trance. This is not full-on psy, it is more a deep psy tech sort of sound. Grant Collins and Mark Robinson used to produce house music before they went on to create Darshan. This LP mostly lives up to the singles released mostly on Flying Rhino, but isn't as strong as some of the releases. They got progressively darker and tighter with their sound in tracks like "Black Magic" on The Black Rhino, their sophomore LP "Spectra" and with the "Digital Damage" single.
