- Original poem by Maya Angelou:
You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I’ll rise.
[..]
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that’s wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
--
Lyrics:
You may shoot me
You may cut me
You may kill me
But still I'll rise
The hope, and the dream - Huge song with an absolutely killer mastering by Nilz (RIP), the bass kicks really strong and there's huge dynamics. Artwork.
- Mr G's monumental remix features the words of artist, poet & freedom fighter
Dr. Marguerite Ann Johnson, from the poem 'Still I Rise'. I believe the words were from her mind, but correct me if it was adapted from elsewhere. Fitting to write this today, exactly 50 years since the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, a reminder of the powerful meaning & reality these words hold for so many around the world & throughout history. For this reason the chosen samples hold power way beyond the strength of the music, making this something truly special.
