Reviews
- As I reviewed it in April 1994:
Summary: SCIII is a dynamic and exquisitely produced album that draws on a variety of influences, but it's not for purists.
Musically the strongest of William Orbit's many projects, the Strange Cargo series is inoffensive and diverse, combining many styles in one digestible bundle of something nearly but not quite Pop. This time around he brings in more dance elements and keeps the jazz to a minimum. Every track is distinctly Orbit, loaded with special effects. Vocals are sprinkled here and there but are never in the foreground. Individual tracks incorporate ambient dub, trance techno, dark spacemusic, and, in a horribly misguided segment, new age. Is it good? Yes. But if you are expecting chocolate, be prepared for some peanut butter. Very few of the tracks on Strange Cargo III fit snugly into a stylistic pigeonhole.
