Reviews
Say what you will about the 80s hard rock genre. Hair metal, pretty little man girl rock, whatever.
THIS was never THAT.
THIS IS A KILLER ROCK RECORD PERIOD. There’s nothing else to say. Just a great great album.
I have this OG U.S. pressing, but it’s probably due for a remaster. The mix CAN be improved. But musically, it’s a classic for sure.
Edited 2 years agoHair gods from the '80s, Coverdale/Sykes/Vandenberg & Co. have created a solid piece of work here.
Highlights are "Still of the Night, "Here I Go Again", and "Bad Boys", with some metal approved guitar riffing. The last two tracks fall off a bit.
Compared to "Slide It In", this record sounds huge, possibly too heavy with a big rumbly bottom. Excess use of reverb was a thing at this time, which further causes confusion between multiple instruments, competing for the same aural space in the mix. But forget the chaos, just crank it and rock out.
4 stars. Recommended.- Sounds alright - could be better. This record doesn't have too good production to begin with. The drums don't really come too alive here, guitars are a bit muffled, Coverdale's vocals sound decent - it still misses that 'something'. The athmosphere on songs like 'Still Of The Night', 'Is This Love' and 'Here I Go Again' is there - but something keeps it back. The print quality is excellent and the jacket looks great. Overall not too bad but I'll be on the hunt for something better, if there is. Musically, this is a great album - an undeniable classic.
