I heard that Warner Brothers bought Roadrunner to get the Slipknot and Nickelback catalogues and they have no interest in reissuing this album.

I don't know if any of that is true, it's just what someone said.

Welcome me fellow metalheads. I now listen to Death Metal. This is my first time ever listening to Death. As a fan of thrash, and all forms of heavy metal, I can't get enough of these guys. Symbolic is the first death metal album I've ever purchased and I know I'm not a seasoned fan of death metal (yet) but I will state the obvious in this classic. Chuck Schuldiner is an animal on the guitar. His technical ability can hardly be compared to anyone else. Maybe Jeff Waters and a few others but this guy is in great company. His vocal performance is pretty brutal, and when compared with the melodic riffs it creates a different and unique listening experience. Gene Hoglan, one of the most underrated metal drummers. The guy has played with the likes of Dark Angel and Testament as of recently and is always doing some sort of different project. The bass is audible only on "Empty Words"(for the longest duration of time) and a few other spots on the album. I honestly believe this band combines the best attributes of metal in their whole career. From the brutality and gore of the first two albums that any horror movie fan like myself would love, to the technicality and progressive elements this band had going for them, Death is a band worthy of your music collection.

I would recommend this album to anyone that has never listened to death metal, but has always been curious about a band to listen to. Death is that band. Symbolic isn't as brutal as I thought, its progressive, technical, and even melodic (check the end of Perrenial Quest) its crazy. Even though I am a newer fan of death metal I am getting Individual Thought Patterns soon as well as Sound Of Perseverance and I recomend you to do the same!
