Reviews
- The Version remixed by Arthur Russell and Nicky Siano is an all time favourite 🦕 An officially licensed and remastered reissue of the original 12" is coming up on Week-End Records: https://week-end.bandcamp.com/album/kiss-me-again
- Supposedly the impetus for this record was Arthur Russell hearing Nicky Siano spin Vicki Sue Robinson's "Turn the Beat Around" one night. They loved the record and Arthur mentioned they could make a disco track like that. A few grand later this is what they made.
- Edited 6 years agoThe B-side by Arthur R. ends like a Velvet Underground jam circa 1967. David Byrne on guitar? No more doubt. He was a young student from The Lou Reed GuitART School at that time.
- While the A-side has a fuller and bigger sounding mix, I find myself drawn more and more to the mixdown done by Arthur Russel and Nicky Siano.
The A-side mix feels huge - encompassing an enormous space with its long reverb tails on the vocals and other instruments, but there is this subtle intimacy created through the use of spatial effects on the B-side. The vocal doesnt sound like its in a vast empty cavern but rather in the same room as the listener. At once you are drawn closer to the source, made to feel the narrative of the singer isnt bigger than life itself but instead very real, very tangible. From an artistic perspective, the warm almost claustrophobic atmosphere of proximity is exactly what a song called "Kiss Me Again" should evoke.
