Dr. Philter Banx – Insertion In Middle "C"

The Insertion in Middle “C” album is a project conceived and recorded by students who attended Fanshawe College in London, Ontario, as part of an experimental media program called Creative Electronics. The course was designed by Tom Lodge, former musical director of the British pirate radio ship, Radio Caroline. The students were therefore enrolled in one of the first post-secondary programs to include teaching studio recording techniques, with a particular emphasis on electronic music. While producing their project, the students came across a scientific report claiming that the average human mating cycle was around 22 minutes, which coincided with the length of one side of a vinyl record. This is how the “Insertion” project was born.

At the bottom of the cover, we can read: Scientifically programmed for intimate couples. The table is set. The first piece, «High heels and mirrored thighs» corresponds to the "preliminaries". It begins with piano in the echo and goes on with frenzied rock where we distinguish a chorister who seems lost in limbo. Little by little, it evolves towards electronic music — the whole piece is full of cleverly constructed electronic sounds. Towards the end, it slows down and turns into an electro-acoustic ambient. The second piece is called «Love pulse» and constitutes the “acting out”. It starts with electronic sounds played randomly, to which is added a layer of sounds made with the synthesizer, then an arpeggiator generates a tempo. From then on, the atmosphere is cozy and surreal. Other layers of electronic sounds gradually emanate from this curious atmosphere. And also slowed sounds of breaths brought together in a montage where they are superimposed on each other. This electro-acoustic construction evolves in an organic and majestic way until other spectacular sounds pass through it and hatched sounds of orgasms appear and disappear within this sonic orgy. Little by little, the tempo of the voices increases and then begins a montage whose crescendo corresponds of course to the “orgasm”. A masterpiece!
