Notes
"I think it was in 1996 when my schoolmate Robert Brandes came around with a Tracker program and said he heard that one could do music with it. So we taught ourselves the basics and learned from each other. After several years having spent producing on my own I felt the wish to work with other musicians again. Maybe because that's what music is really about, to create it in interaction with other people? So, over time I started to work with different musicians and I often judged the results as more valuable than my solo work. The reason for that is probably the difference in the process of creation. There are compromises to be made, yes. But at the same time you try out things that wouldn't have tried on your own. It's just so exciting when the result is more than the sum of its parts!
The concept for the album was to collect different collaborations that display a kind of intersection of all my influences over the last five years. For the major part of the album we developed the core of the track at my studio in Dresden or at the studio of the collaboration partner when I was in town. But there are also improvisations on top of almost finished songs (Friction) or the combination of both aproaches with a singer (The Place, I Need You, You & Me). Finally, there's one feature (Broken), wich got realized through exchanging files with each other via MySpace.
I would like to say Thank You to all the musicians involved! Thank you for your great ideas, your patience and all those good times. I'm very happy that all those fragments finally come together. The same goes for the graphic artists who illustrated the musical concept by creating their personal version of the same template, wich then got combined into a collage that deconstructs its origin. I would like to express my warmest thanks to my family and friends for always being there. And last but not least I would like to thank the whole Uncanny Valley crew for your great work. Without you this project would not have been realized.
